A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or any artistic representation of a person: where the face is always the most important feature.

The portrait often shows the sitter - in a still position - and looking directly - or at a slight angle - at the artist.

Yet a half or even a full body, could pass as a portrait: if the artist is trying to capture - personality or mood of the sitter.

To summarise: a portrait is to display the likeness of the sitter.

A landscape is a drawing, painting, photograph: striving to capture the natural scenery - such as sky, mountains, valleys, rives and trees.

The subject can be of a wide or narrow view, singular or a composition of landscape, backgrounds even a figure or two.

As the name suggests: landscapes most are of countryside to please the viewers eye.

To summarise: landscapes have many artistic traditions.

A abstract drawing or painting, ( I researched ): is called non-objective, experimental or conceptual image that does not have an immediate association to the object being viewed.

So the viewers imagination maybe required to see what the artist is trying to express or present to their audience.

Of cause an abstract drawing or painting can be of any subject, or appearance - involving many shapes, colours and nothingness.

To summarise: an abstract is just as the artist says it is.
